Here's the lowdown: the user interface isn't that great. As long as you have another device to handle these two functions, you can do everything else that's possible in Evernote.Įxactly how you do those things in Nixnote is another problem area. Nixnote lets you do almost everything you can do in the official Evernote app, except for a couple of limitations: you can't permanently delete notes, and you can't buy a subscription. This means that even though there is no official Evernote app for Linux, you can still connect to your Evernote account with Nixnote. Nixnote is an unofficial Evernote client built for Linux. But if you're moving to Ubuntu from another platform, you don't have to let that stop you from fully using Evernote. There are plenty of great premium apps like Evernote that are simply not officially supported on Linux platforms. There's a lot to like about Linux, but one of the main drawbacks is the general lack of support from the big commercial players. It's up to you whether or not it's worth it at that price. MedleyText used to be free, but its business model recently changed. If your main work machine runs Linux but you still like to write lines of code from time to time, you can do it with MedleyText on the other two platforms and it will be in sync. It is also cross-platform, with support for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS. Support for keyboard shortcuts, rich formatting, and embedded code blocks make it much more versatile for coders than a regular note-taking app. This means that if you do primarily web development or general light coding work, you may not even need another development environment. The app has support for over 40 different programming languages out of the box, including HTML, Javascript, MarkDown, and CSS. MedleyText is designed with your specific needs in mind. Unsurprisingly, coders need a good note-taking app at least as much as anyone else.
